Untitled
Material: glass
7” × 5 1/2” × 3 1/2”
About the Work
Through her work, Jen explores the emotions attached to themes of containment and emergence, individuality and community, and the observance of details in the very minute. A shelter involves more than just a roof. For each of us it is a complex feeling, hopefully including security; a haven from the rest of the world. Shelter hints at this complex feeling.
About the Artist
Jen van Herten has always enjoyed working with her hands. Although she persued a more traditional corporate career path as a young adult, she always kept in touch with the arts, to which she was introduced at an early age. Once she cut glass for the first time, she discovered the ‘more’ she didn’t know she’d been searching for. Quitting her career, Jen immersed herself in glass workshops and independent creative exploration. She enrolled in the School of Craft and Design Glass Program at Sheridan College, where she is now in her final year.
