Shelter

Material: acrylic on canvas
18” × 18”

About the Work

A shelter is a structure that provides privacy and protection from danger; the condition of being protected. It provides cover and a safe-haven from the elements as well as devastation. Shelter can be the protective love of a parent or a structure with a roof. Shelter can be a feeling of safety, of knowing your place in the world; knowing that you are supported and not alone, sustained by family, friends, community and the earth. Shelter is the hand of friendship and love, knowing you are safe and you belong. Shelter is essential for our existence and well-being.

About the Artist

Eva Lewarne was born and raised in Poland and currently lives in Canada. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design, she has exhibited internationally to great acclaim. Eva paints energetically and intuitively to avoid thinking about a piece until it feels finished, whereupon she looks to see what is there, as surprised as anyone else.
