About the Work
Glass is the language in which I choose to communicate because of its fluid and chemical properties. I enjoy working with glass because of the level of skill needed to manipulate the glass successfully and I am proud of the fact that I am not in a rush when creating pieces. I draw my inspiration from sources that relate to rural and natural areas and I enjoy nature's scientific aspects such as natural phenomenon and chemical reactions.
The one home that we all share is an enormous and very beautiful place. Although we all live on the earth, its resources are distributed unevenly among its inhabitants. In a place where circumstances can dictate where someone is allowed to live or what land they may own, it is a comforting thought to know that the sky is there for everyone.
About the Artist
James Wardhaugh was born in Edmonton in 1986 and moved to Ottawa shortly thereafter. Upon completing his high school education, James enrolled in a 14 week condensed drawing and painting program at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Haliburton which prompted him to take another 14 week condensed course in glassblowing. After renting time at various glass studios in Ontario over the next eight months, he was accepted into the Sheridan College Craft and Design program, where he is currently completing his final year.
